This event had been an idea of ours since my son David was first diagnosed with Acute Myloid Leukaemia in December 2005. When he eventually came out of University College Hospital, ideas to raise some money for the Children With Leukaemia were discussed – but all plans were shelved when David fell ill with Leukaemia for the second time in December 2007.

David’s lengthy treatment was going well and his Bone Marrow Transplant was successful. During this time, young Amy Wallace had similar treatment to David but suffered complications and tragically, on the 30th May 2008, she lost her battle with this cruel, wicked disease. She was 13 and had bravely fought this disease for 7 years.

It was David’s idea to dedicate this event to Amy. This is the main reason that the bank account is in my son’s name (the David Mitchell Fund) and that the dedication to the event goes to Amy Wallace. The event is about ALL leukaemia sufferers but the event is dedicated to Amy to highlight her personal fight and bravery, the suffering of her family.
